Statistics tell
us that China has 153 million people now over 60 and around 20% of them are
in need of long term care services. That is over 30 million people.
That demographic, coupled
with the fact that a growing number of Chinese children choose not to live with
their parents after marriage, puts more people dependent on the government for
support.
Development of home care
services is a critical element in the country’s plan for addressing this
issue. But they also will need to depend on local not-for-profit organizations
such as the Hetong Chartable Foundation for the Aged. This article at Xinhuanet.com
provides insight into the challenges and solutions being sought to address this
enormous demand.
