Shaping Tomorrow Today

2008-09-04 Montreal Canada

Document sans titre

The IFA’s 9th Global Conference on Ageing and Expo Ageing & Design Montréal which will be held on September 4 to 7, 2008.
The Conference will be hosted by Ageing Design Montréal (ADM), a non-governmental organisation created in 2007 by some of the most important key players in Canada, including the Government of Québec, the Government of Canada as well as the City
of Montréal.

The event will highlight the IFA’s 35th anniversary. It will also take place nearly a decade after the IFA’s successful 4th Global Conference on Ageing during which the 1999 Montréal Declaration for Older People was adopted. As well, 2008 marks the fi ve-year review of the United Nations Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing. According to the UN, the number of people aged 60 and over is expanding more quickly than any other age group. Shaping Tomorrow Today, the theme of the Conference and Exposition, will attract leading decision makers, academics and practitioners in the fi eld of ageing as well as innovators in design and technology working to create an enabling environment for older people.

Montréal is a unique site for this important international event. It is a multicultural city that is sensitive to the challenges facing its aging population and is well recognized for its openness to innovation. Montréal ranks, in fact, as one of the only three cities
worldwide recognized by UNESCO as a City of Design.
